For Janet A. Cook the figure is an endless source of fascination and the most demanding of all subject matters. It’s "powerful, beautiful and timeless”.
Working in the classic tradition of figurative painting, Cook’s work is influenced by the artists of the renaissance and mannerist periods working in the 16th and 17th century. She combines the fluidity and movement from these old masters with a contemporary set of imagery that is not only from this world, but also from her imagination. Abstraction, repetition, pattern and symbolism, are important components, but her ultimate goal is to intrigue and engage the viewer.
Janet studied at the National Academy of Design in NYC and teaches at the Pastel Society of America. Her work has been featured in many magazines including the New York and Trenton City Times, American Artist and The Pastel journal. Her work is in many collections including the Trenton City Museum, NJ.
