Howard Gladstone was born in New York City, and received his BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design; Certificate from the New York Studio School; and M.A. from Governors State University, IL. He has also studied at the National Academy, NY; Art Students League, NY; and the International School in Umbria, Italy.
He has had solo exhibitions at the Antreasian Gallery, Baltimore; Holtzman Art Gallery, Towson State University, MD: Resurgam Gallery, MD; and Newport Art Association, RI. He has participated in exhibitions at the Elizabeth Harris Gallery, NY; Bond Market Association, NY; Around the Coyote, IL; Manhattan Borough President's Office, NY; National Academy Museum, NY; and Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, NY.
His awards include fellowships from the Illinois Arts Council, Newington-Cropsey Foundation, and the Abbey Mural Workshop: and residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and Vytlacil. He has received the Nessa Cohen Award for sculpture, First Prize in Painting at the National Academy, and an unusual award for excellence in both painting and sculpture from the New York Studio School.
He has worked as a filmmaker and cameraman and his film and video work has been shown on public television, and the Museum of Modern Art. He has taught at Columbia College, IL, and Studio Place Arts, VT; co-founded the Chicago Area Film and Video Network, and founded the Portrait Project.
